Junior FAQ
When are classes held?
Class schedules can be found on our Timetable page. We offer classes on weekdays and Saturdays to suit a variety of schedules.

Do children need prior dance experience?
Not at all! QCD welcomes young dancers of all levels — from complete beginners to those already developing their technique. Our classes are thoughtfully designed to be age-appropriate, supportive, and challenging in all the right ways, ensuring every child can learn, grow, and thrive at their own pace.

Is there a trial class available?
Yes! Children are welcome to come along for a free trial class before committing.
Can parents stay in the studio during class?
Whilst we don’t allow parents/guardians into the classroom during class as it can be distracting for the little ones, we do provide the below viewing options for parents/guardians:

Tiny Tots & Creative Movement: we have our blinds open in Term 1 and 2 for parents to be able to view our Tiny Tots and Creative Movement classes. Please note we keep the blinds closed in Term 3 and 4 in order to keep our concert preparations a surprise for our parents/guardians.
Prep to Primary: for the Prep to Primary age students, we provide designated viewing classes throughout the year for parents/guardians to view their child’s progress.
All Junior Programs: parents/guardians are invited into the classroom during the last class of the year for a special graduation showcase
What if my child is shy or anxious?
Our teachers are caring, patient, and experienced in supporting children of all personalities — including those who may feel shy or a little nervous at first. QCD classrooms are positive, nurturing spaces where every child feels safe to learn at their own pace. If a little one becomes upset and needs extra comfort, a teacher will always reach out to their parent or guardian for a quick cuddle or reassuring moment before helping them settle back into class feeling supported and secure.
What is the dress code for Tiny Tots and Creative Movement classes?
Children can wear any ballerina, princess, superhero, or comfortable outfit that allows them to move freely. Ballet shoes aren’t required for the trial – bare feet are perfectly fine. Ballet shoes can be fitted and purchased from our onsite dance shop once enrolled.
What is the dress code for Prep Dance, Pre-Primary, and Primary classes?
Students in these classes wear a studio uniform once enrolled. For the trial, any comfortable outfit is fine. Ballet, jazz, and tap shoes aren’t required for the trial, but can be fitted and purchased from our onsite dance shop once enrolled.
What happens if my child misses a class?
Makeup classes are available and can be scheduled with reception.
Are classes suitable for children with special needs?
We strive to be inclusive. Teachers can adapt lessons to suit children of varying abilities – please contact us to discuss individual requirements.

How can I track my child’s progress?
Teachers provide feedback and updates throughout the year. You’ll also have opportunities to observe classes informally and see your child perform at the end-of-year concert and in-class graduation showcase.

Do students have to participate in the end-of-year concert?
Participation is optional. While students may choose not to join, the concert is a wonderful chance for our little stars to shine on stage!
